Our tiny family had so many FIRSTS this month!

We kicked off the month with Matt's birthday. He is a fantastic daddy, husband, and all-around great guy. We celebrated him with a special dinner (yes, burgers and fries are considered special in our house) and a couple of gifts that Lucy completely believed were hers.
"I will eat that...thank you!"
"Hmmm...these don't look my size..."
After Matt's birthday came and went, we had only one week until Christmas! Once Christmas Eve rolled around we had decided to hit the road to Sacramento again. Lucy was such a champ this time around - no tears of boredom for this girl at all!

We celebrated Christmas two days early for our own little family which lasted about 5 minutes since we only got Lucy one gift and Matt and I didn't buy anything for each other this year!
"Uhhh...guys?"
We actually didn't purchase Lucy that bike, we only got her a book. That bike came as a gift from a friend of ours and it is just too cute and so good for Lulu to grow into. What was her favorite gift, you ask? Wrapping paper. She ate tons of it while we opened her presents for her.

Lucy arrived in Sacramento just in time to oust her newborn cousin James from his rightful post in the Nativity, change into her best swaddling get-up, and hop into the manger as the 2014 Woodland Family Baby Jesus. She was a little...eh hem...verbose for the manger and was sorta folded up a bit, but she actually loved the whole spectacle and just quietly laid there and stared at her cousins for the whole 10 minute production. I was obviously cracking up because I am a great mother.

Christmas morning brought even more fun in the shape of these custom made matching family "I Love Lucy" shirts. We really, really do love Lucy and we will wear them proudly!

Lucy did give us a gift though...although it may be closer to a Christmas Miracle!  In fact her gift was so good that we did that hyperventilating, run into the baby's room, "Oh my goodness she must be DEAD!" move. She began sleeping a 12-hour stretch on Christmas Eve. It was a truly magical Christmas morning.

On returning home to San Diego, we decided to really ring in 2015 by starting Lucy on solid foods to commemorate the first day of the year. I know there are various feelings around starting your baby on solids early (yes Lucy is only 5 months old), but honestly we simply have a HUNGRY kiddo. She came into the world ravenous, and has rarely been satiated since. Every meal with her for the past month has consisted of her eyeballing our food and trying to steal some. She is an absolute gem at the dinner table.
Not surprisingly, Lucy took to "real" food like a fish to water and didn't push any of the rice cereal back out of her mouth, didn't drip any, and once the bowl was empty proceeded to lick her bib clean. Delicate flower, this child. If only we could teach her how to properly hold a utensil. Oh, and how to pay rent.

We also began to enjoy some of Lucy's Christmas gifts as a family after our trip. For daddy, Lucy received a bike trailer so they can go riding together.
She rides in the back and loves it. Yes, she is probably too small. Yes, you should probably call CPS. But this babe thinks it is so fantastic to be doing cool things with her daddy, we don't have the heart to tell her she's too little to ride!

On mom's behalf Lucy got a San Diego Zoo and Safari Park pass! That means we get to go to the Zoo or Safari Park anytime Lucy wants too! She chose to go the first Friday of the New Year with approximately 600,000 of our dearest friends, Not surprisingly, Lulu loved it.

Finally, just before hitting the 5 month mark this past week, Lucy went on her first trip to the beach. By some parental oversight, we have deprived her this long. So on January 6th on an 80-degree day in the dead of winter, Lucy finally got to squish her toes in the sand.

No surprise here: Lulu loved it.

We just adore this happy, healthy little lady and cannot wait to see what this gal has in store for us this month. She is a laugh a minute and we can't imagine the world without her.
