About Matt:
Born and raised in Sacramento, he's the third of seven (count 'em) Woodland siblings. Matt attended High in Sacramento where in his third year he was introduced to his future wife...and immediately disliked her. "She was sooo stuck up" he has been repeatedly quoted as saying! Despite the initial distaste, when Matt left for college at Brigham Young University in 1998, he kept in touch with Kelly via phone calls and emails. He was called on a church mission to Houston, Texas in 1999 where he learned all about barbecued ribs and 10-gallon hats...and maybe a little about the gospel too! During his mission he had one friend who wrote him faithfully; none other than that "stuck up" gal from high school. After returning to beautiful Provo, Utah and the relative safety of the BYU campus Matt swore off women and stuck his nose to the grindstone to complete a bachelor's degree in Communications - Broadcast Journalism. After graduation, Matt returned to his beloved hometown and mooched off of his parents until the sand and sun of San Diego called to him. He moved to San Diego in 2005, and has lived happily at the beach ever since...he even fits in work sometimes too! Currently, his work life is spent building and curating databases in the finance department of a local bank.
Now for Kelly:
Kelly is also a native Sacramentan (is that a word?) . She comes from a large family of five siblings and four parents, but no pets. She attended high school with Matt where she excelled in swimming, water polo, cheerleading, and Social Studies (like how best to wiggle out of class, and meet cute boys). She achieved her double undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Family & Community Health at CSU, Chico, and then moved back to Sacramento where she rekindled her friendship with Matt. Soon, she applied and was accepted to San Diego State University's Graduate School of Public Health and she too took to the beach, moving to beautiful Cardiff-by-the-Sea, CA with her Chico State girlfriends. Kelly completed her Masters in Public Health (MPH) in 2007 and currently works for the US Department of Defense working in International HIV Prevention, Education, Care and Treatment.
Matt and Kelly were married in 2006 in the gorgeous San Diego LDS Temple and got to celebrate with a big 'ol party. It's been pretty fun ever since!
